In the American League, Tampa Bay and Texas would go straight to the Division Series. The Wild Card Series pits the Yankees against Minnesota and Houston against Baltimore.
Tampa Bay leads the majors in winning percentage with a 35-14 record this season. The Rays have slowed down a bit since opening with a 13-game winning streak, but they’re still performing well. According to MLB.com, “Tampa Bay is still the best team in the majors at 35-14, even though they’ve slowed down a bit from their early-season pace. Their team wRC+ (where 100 is the league average) of 138 is the best in the majors, surpassed only by the 1927 Yankees (125).”
An even more surprising team is Texas. After going 68-94 and finishing fourth in the American League West last season after signing Corey Seager (10 years, $325 million) and Marcus Semien (7 years, $175 million), the Rangers continued to invest heavily this offseason with the signing of Jacob deGrom for five years, $185 million.토토사이트
After spending big last year, Texas is 29-18 this season, good for second in the American League and tied for second in the majors. Remarkably, they’ve done so without Seager and DeGrom, who have missed significant time with injuries. As MLB.com notes, “Texas is hitting well from both sides of the plate. Even without Seager and DeGrom for extended periods of time, Texas has continued its success and put itself in a good position for a postseason run.”
