‘Smile Jumper’ Woo Sang-hyeok (27, Yongin City Hall) took second place in an outdoor international competition he participated in for the first time this year.

Woo Sang-hyeok won the silver medal with a record of 2m27 in the men’s high jump at the opening game of the 2023 World Athletics Federation (WA) Diamond League held in Doha, Qatar on the 6th (Korean time).

The championship was won by Jubon Harrison (USA) who succeeded in 2m32. Mutaz Esa Barsim (Qatar), a rival of Woo Sang-hyeok and said to be the strongest player in the field, finished third with 2m24.

At last year’s event, Woo Sang-hyeok won the championship, exceeding 2m33. He was aiming for a second consecutive title this year, but had to be content with going over 2m27. On the other hand, Harrison was the only athlete to win the gold medal over 2m30.

The high jump started at 2m15, and the height of the bar was increased by 3cm.

Woo Sang-hyeok and Barsim entered the competition from 2m18 and passed easily in the first period. At 2m21, Woo Sang-hyeok succeeded, but Barshim succeeded at the end of the 3rd period.

Afterwards, the match proceeded with a three-way match between Woo Sang-hyeok, Barsim, and Harrison. Woo Sang-hyeok failed at 2m27 by touching the bar both times. Woo Sang-hyeok, who surpassed 2m27 in the third period, surpassed Barsim and jumped to second place.크크크벳

Harrison passed 2m30 in the first trial. Woo Sang-hyeok challenged 2m32 and aimed for a turnaround. However, he failed all three times and finished this competition.

Harrison, who succeeded in 2m32, challenged to 2m35. However, he ended the match by failing in the first period.

Woo Sang-hyeok fell short of his best record of 2m35 (2023 World Championships) in this competition. However, he got off to a good start by winning the silver medal at his first outdoor international event of the season.

Meanwhile, Woo Sang-hyeok, who finished this competition, will return to Korea immediately and participate in the KBS Cup track and field competition, which also serves as a selection match for the Asian Games.
