The San Diego Padres inherit a “legacy of failed trades.
The Padres announced on Monday that they have claimed right-hander Glen Otto, 27, off waivers from the Texas Rangers.
Otto came to Texas from the New York Yankees in a trade in late July 2021.
Texas acquired Otto, along with Ezequiel Duran, Josh H. Smith and Trevor Hauber, in exchange for then-leadoff hitter Joey Gallo and left-hander Joelie Rodriguez.
Otto was expected to be a cog in Texas’ starting rotation.
He showed flashes of improvement in the 2022 season. In 27 games and 135 2/3 innings pitched, he went 7-10 with a 4.64 ERA.
This season, things are different. Injuries have taken their toll as Texas has added a number of veteran starters. He started the season on the disabled list with a shoulder injury.
He didn’t get many opportunities. He appeared in six games and pitched 10 2/3 innings. At Triple-A Round Rock, he went 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 10 games and 29 1/3 innings pitched.
For now, he’ll be in Triple-A with his new team, but he could still get an opportunity in the big leagues for the rest of the season.
San Diego is currently down Joe Musgrove and Darvish Yu to injury, and Rich Hill is struggling. They need a pitcher to fill out the rotation for the rest of the season. Otto could be a good alternative.바카라사이트
