Reporter Lee Young-ho = Kim Joo-chan, the 19-year-old striker of professional soccer’s K League One Suwon Samsung, has been named the winner of the Lemona Young Player of the Month Award for July.

The Korea Professional Football Association announced on July 3, “Out of the 12 nominees for the award, Kim received the most votes from the Technical Study Group (TSG) members, beating out Chun Sung-hoon (Incheon), Bae Joon-ho (Daejeon), and Lee Han-beom (Seoul).”

This is the first time Kim Joo-chan, who was born in 2004, has won the Young Player Award after making his K League 1 debut this year.

Recognized for his potential as a starter from the start of the season, Kim scored his K League debut goal against top-ranked Ulsan Hyundai in Round 23 and followed it up with a goal against Gangwon FC in Round 24 for a two-game goal streak.

Nominees for the Youngflare of the Month Award must meet the following criteria: ▲ Korean nationality ▲ 23 years of age or younger (born after 2000) ▲ three years or younger from the year they made their first official K League appearance (debuted after the 2021 season).

The award ceremony for Kim will be held at the Suwon World Cup Stadium on May 5, when Suwon FC and Suwon City will play in the ‘Suwon Derby’. Kim will receive a trophy and a cash prize of 1 million won.
