The Red Sox placed him on the 15-day disabled list (IL) on Wednesday, saying that “further examination revealed inflammation in Sale’s shoulder.”
“It doesn’t feel good to feel like this,” Sale told the AP and other local media outlets at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S. “I came back to baseball feeling good, but I’m in a tough spot,” he said.
“The (surgically repaired) elbow is fine,” he said, adding, “I just have to get through it. I’m going to get back on my feet.”
Sale is one of the league’s best left-handed hard-throwing pitchers, topping out at 100 miles per hour with a fastball and a sharp breaking slider. From 2012 to 2018, he won 10 or more games every year and made the All-Star Game every year. In 2018, he led Boston to a World Series title and a championship ring.
However, Sale has been plagued by injuries since signing a five-year, $145 million extension with Boston.
In August 2019, he was lost for the season with elbow pain, and in April 2020, he underwent elbow ligament splicing surgery.
He returned in August 2021 and showed promise with a 5-1 record and 3.16 ERA that year, but a stress fracture in his ribs in spring training in 2022 sidelined him for the first half of the season.토토사이트
In his second game back, on July 18 against the New York Yankees, he broke the pinkie on his left hand after being hit by a pitch. He dedicated himself to rehabilitation, but in August of that year, he broke his right wrist while riding his bike, ending his season.
This season, he made the opening day roster and worked his way into the starting rotation, but left his start against Cincinnati on April 2 with shoulder soreness in the fourth inning and was placed on the DL the next day.
