A $3.857 million a year player could miss less than 100 games. Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon has been placed on the disabled list with a groin injury, followed by a wrist injury. This time, it’s the aftermath of a hit-and-run ball.메이저놀이터
The Angels placed Rendon on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday. Rendon was hit by a Nathan Eovaldi pitch on his left wrist in the first inning of a game against the Texas Rangers on April 16. X-rays cleared the bone, but the pain didn’t go away and he didn’t play in the game. Luis Lengipo started at third base in the three-game series against the Kansas City Royals.
MLB.com reported, “Rendon, who did not start any of the three games against Kansas City, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left wrist contusion. Rendon was hit in the wrist by a pitch from Iboldi on Aug. 16. X-rays showed no bone damage, but the swelling hasn’t gone down and he hasn’t been able to use his wrist properly,” the report said.
Rendon complained of severe pain after being hit in the wrist at the time of the injury, but with another third baseman, Gio Ursella, out with an injury, there was no one else available to play third base. Backup catcher Matt Tice had experience playing third base, but it was difficult to clear the bench in the first inning.
Manager Phil Nevin kept Rendon in the lineup for now, but didn’t let him swing. In Game 16, Rendon struck out in all but one of his three at-bats, all on balls hit to him. In the sixth inning, he tried to bunt with runners on first and second, but two strikes later, the bunt was fouled off and he struck out.
Nevin said in a postgame interview, “(Rendon) had a really swollen wrist, but he said he could play defense. I tried to keep him in the game as long as we were tied or ahead. I knew he couldn’t bunt, so I didn’t sign him.”
Landon signed a massive seven-year, $245 million contract with the Angels prior to the 2020 season. He was named an All-Star and won a Silver Slugger Award the season before the trade. He finished third in National League MVP voting. In 146 games, he batted .319 with an OPS of 1.010.
Outside of his first year, however, he became an injury-prone player. Only in 2020, when he played 60 games, did he play a near-full season of 52 games, and in the last two years, he’s only played 105 games. Even this year, he was limited to 38 of the team’s 84 games while dealing with a groin injury. Lendl’s salary this year is $3.857 million.
