Seongnam Daewon Middle and Ansan Jungang Middle topped their respective leagues at the 2nd Baekhoegi National Middle School Baseball Tournament.
Daewonjoong, led by manager Park Gun-soo, used an exceptional pitching performance and six hits to defeat Daegu Gyeongsangjoong 3-1 in the final of the Taegi King League at Hwaseong Baseball Theme Park in Gangwon Province on April 22.
Daewonjoong got through the first two innings without allowing an earned run on the back of a strong start from Kim Dong-yoon, but lost the lead in the top of the third inning when Ahn Chi-sung singled to left and then walked Cho Myeong-joon to put runners on first and second with two outs.
However, Daewonjoong tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning after Lee Kang-hyun singled up the middle and Kang Min-seok hit a two-run double over the left field fence.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dae Won-joong took a 3-1 lead after Kim Dong-yoon drew a walk and Lee Jun-woo singled to put runners on second and third with Song Kwan-ho hitting an RBI double to center field. Lee Seo-jin, the third pitcher who took the mound after a walk in the top of the sixth, gave up two singles in the bottom of the seventh but was able to keep the game scoreless to secure the victory.
Head coach Park Gun-soo said, “It’s even more precious because it’s our first win since our inception. I’m happy that the regret of being runner-up and third in the tournament for 10 years has disappeared,” Park said. “I’m grateful to the players who worked hard in the hot weather to achieve the result of winning the championship.”
In the final game of the Samil Park League, Ansan Jungangjungwoong defeated Seoul Seongnamjung 8-4, led by Kim Min-seok’s 4-for-2 with two RBIs and Dong Gun-young’s 4-for-3 with one RBI, to take the top spot.
Ansan Jungang, coached by Hwang Yun-sung, took an early lead in the top of the first inning after Choi Jin-yong singled to left field, followed by a wild pitch by Seongnam Jung-min. Then, Dong Gun-young singled to left and Lee Chang-mok singled to right to score two more runs and take a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the second inning, Ansan Jungangjoong put runners on first and second after leadoff hitter Lee Jun-seo walked and Ryu Hosan followed with a bunt single. Choi Jin-yong then walked to load the bases, and Kim Min-seok followed with a two-run double to right to make it 6-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Ansan Jungangjoong gave up a run in the first inning on an RBI double to Kim Tae-wook of Seongnam, but Lee Chang-mok struggled and gave up three consecutive walks and an RBI double to Lim Ji-woo to make it 6-4.
After being silent since the second inning, Ansan Jungangjoong broke through in the top of the seventh with back-to-back singles by Kim Min-seok and Dong Gun-young to put runners on first and third with no outs, then Lee Chang-mok’s grounder to shortstop allowed Kim Min-seok to score, and Seo Jun-seo added a run with an RBI single.
“It’s my first win in nine years as a manager, so I’m very emotional and happy,” said Hwang Yun-sung, manager of Ansan Jungang, “It must have been hard with so many games, but I think we were able to win because the players followed us well until the end. I want to say thank you to them.” 메이저사이트
